Feng Shui of Clocks

Tuesday June 19, 2007
feng shui of clocks I recently received an interesting question about the bad feng shui of having clocks in the house and the feng shui of giving clocks as a gift.

Generally, displaying clocks in your home is not bad feng shui. Knowing the time and adjusting the pace accordingly is part of our daily routine.

Good feng shui areas to display clocks are the kitchen, the living room, and the home office. Having a small clock in your child's room is good feng shui, as it helps them understand the passing of time; and having a small alarm clock in your bedroom is almost a necessity! Be mindful, though about having a small alarm clock that can be easily tucked away; do not display big clocks in the bedroom.
  • Do not display clocks so that you can see them first thing as you enter the house or last thing as you leave your home.
  • Do not display Metal clocks in the East, which is the Health & Family area of the house governed by the Wood element.
As far as the giving of clocks as a gift, it is regarded as bad, or inauspicious feng shui, if a younger person gives it as a gift to an older person. Taking into consideration the essence of clocks - measuring the passing of time - it is a reminder of getting older, thus it might be considered a bad feng shui gift. Photo: (c) Rodolf Clix

hi. thanks for this informative article. however, i have a related question to ask. we recently received a clock from close relatives. we know it’s a bad thing to give clocks as a gift, however what is your perspective about receiving it? do we have to return the gift?

appreciate any insight you might have on this. thank you so much!

sincerely,

I am sure your close relatives meant the best when they gave you the gift; no need to return it. It is mostly considered a bad gift in Asian cultures, but then there is a higher awareness about it there, too. So, if you feel your gift was given with an open heart, receive it with an open heart and do not worry about it!
Cheers.
