I agree with your statement on looking at what the feng shui mirror does and use something to replace it for the front entrance. One excellent way to invoke protection at the front door is to have a stone or ceramic type small pillar thats holds a glass sphere. The sphere will reflect all negative energies back out from whence it came. Another great feng shui protection method is to use the four heavenly animals of feng shui, the phoenix, the turtle, the tiger and the dragon.
