White Tara, also called "the Mother of all Buddhas" is the perfect embodiment of graceful power, wisdom and purity. As with Tara expressions in other 5 colours, the vibrations of white colour express the specific energy of White Tara. Pure, truthful, powerful, transcending all limitations - these are just some of the attributes of colour white that describe the energy of White Tara.
Sometimes the White Tara is called "the Goddess of Seven Eyes" because in addition to the third eye, she is also depicted with eyes in her hands and feet. This represents White Tara seeing all human suffering, as well as encourages the devotee to develop vigilance and sensitivity to the energy in and around them.
In many ways, the energy of White Tara is similar to the energy of Kwan Yin; both goddesses are referred to as mothers and represent a strong and protective flow of compassion. The way White Tara is definitely different from Kwan Yin is in her feminist associations.
If Kwan Yin turned from Heaven's gate and vowed to be here till every human attains liberation, Tara vowed to be born as a woman in all her lifetimes. Because of this Tara is often called the first, or early feminist.
There are different facets to Tara's energy as evoked by her being represented in a specific colour. For example, Red Tara helps one activate the energy to attain goals, Blue Tara helps transmute anger, and Green Tara heals from fear and helps remove obstacles. Yellow Tara can be asked for help with wealth or material possessions and Black Tara's domain is power (inner or outer).
However, just as white is considered to be the supreme colour in many mystic traditions (white contains within itself all colours), so is White Tara considered the most powerful of all Taras because it embodies them all.
White Tara is aways depicted seating in the lotus position with the soles of her feet pointing upward (diamond lotus). Her left hand is in the protective, no fear mudra, and her right hand makes the compassion and wish granting mudra. A blue lotus flower is often depicted emerging from White Tara's left hand - an energy expression of a state of fearlessness leading to Buddhahood.
Another association with the powers of White Tara is the energy of health and longevity. She can grant a long life, if one is devoted to the pursuit of truth and universal compassion.
Now that you know more about the White Tara (and if you feel strongly drawn to her energy), here are the feng shui guidelines for the placement of White Tara symbol in your home:
- Southwest, East and North bagua areas are excellent for the placement of your White Tara statue, embroidery or art image.
- Never place your White Tara statue on the floor, in the kitchen or in the bathroom. A height of at least 3 feet is recommended for the good feng shui placement of White Tara.
- A personal altar can be an excellent space for your White Tara.

This CD has the longer version of the White Tara mantra that goes like this: "Om Tare Tuttare Ture Mama Ayur Pune Gyana Puntin Kuru Swoha" and the translation is "The liberator of suffering shines light upon me to create an abundance of merit and wisdom for long life and happiness."
