What helped me
- The only thing that finally helped me let go of clutter and clear my closets and basement was a wonderful book and I've read them all. I recommend Goodbye Clutter Hello Simplicity . The advice guided me through step by step like she was there with me. Clear out and change your life!

Will it ever go away..the Depression
- This house of mine is very nice. It's just hard to believe that things can accumulate..and so quickly! There are a few others that reside in the home with me but it seems that we are all too depressed to get started. What could I do? I believe in the saying, "next to godliness is cleanliness..."

Decluttering brings lightness and clarit
- As for some others I have read here, tv shows on hoarders and dirty trash filled houses, started me thinking. I did not want to be like that. I have turned my whole life around, I even feel Im making better progress at work, I respect myself a lot more and I am a lot happier, although since divorced. Everything is benefitting. Im still on my way, but, now, upwards. Im also getting more mindful about what I put away and where. This is so much better.

What to do with children's memorabilia
- I am a sentimental person so I attach memories to items. It is especially hard to part with things that belong to my children or things they created. I also like to scrapbook. I find that taking a picture of an item and writing a journal entry about why it is special is a good way to preserve the memory. Once it has been "scrapbooked" I can get rid of the item and clear up more space.

I *will* love my home soon!
- A flooding disaster provided the opportunity to transform the home I have detested for 12 years now (husband's pick). In order to have the floors resurfaced I have been giving away and throwing away furniture, clothing, objets d'art, and completely decluttering our home. Once the floors are done I am redecorating! I've been practicing feng shui for a long time, but the old, shabby, and lifeless linoleum and carpet dragged down the entire appearance of the house, and therefore negatively impacted the chi.

Thanks for your extra ideas
- I am currently in the process of clearing out my life too (http://goo.gl/ZeB5n). I have been looking at the 21 day process from theminimalists.com. I am working on a variation of their ideas, because I moved recently, and so have pretty much already got the packing party sorted. I enjoyed your thoughts above, and will definitely be adding some of them to my process. I can't wait to clear out my life, close off all those chapters in my life and move onto the work that matters.

De-Clutter is in the Process
- I read an inspiring blog post a week or so ago and took up a challenge of getting rid of 100 in 25 days. I have been through some tough times and I'm looking to move. I want to decrease the amount of stuff I have so I can do this easier and not have to worry about where to put/store things or breaking things I do love. I also don't want to be stressed about carting all this stuff around with me. I have gotten rid of 132 items in one week. I donated, sold, or threw away items, big and small. I also counted several small things or a pack of something as one. However, even though it's 132 items, I haven't reached my main goal of a harmonious space, so I'm going to keep creating challenges for myself until I reach a point where things are calm! Reading some feng shui tips on clutter has helped me out too, especially to encourage me to declutter the spaces in the bagua that I want to improve. Wish me luck!

Parents too set in their ways
- I have reached a Grad. degree in computer science and need to do my own life but through the years, as supporting parents as I have, they are extreme clutters & would love to help but they are so set in their ways; it is really hard.

declutter
- This has helped me greatly and I still have much more to do. Everytime I get rid of the clutter my mind feels so clear. I hope never to have clutter once the house is thoroughly cleaned. cCutter is like a disease that lives within telling you oh I might need this again and yet you know you will never need the item and surely never ever miss it.

Great advise
- Thanks for the great article on art spaces. It is difficult to get exact advise Feng Shui wise for artists. I can't agree more about the "creative mess". After I am done with one painting idea or series and ready to focus on another I find it really helps to "clean the palette" both literally and otherwise. Thanks for the great advise. www.krislyn-art.com

New Beginnings-preparing for house move
- hi, I'm on a personal journey to improve my surroundings. Firstly, from the inside of my home-de cluttering before potential home swap visitors see my place has been a great motivator but as stated, it was hard to get started. Sluggish, can't be bothered-I decided to set a timer for 15 mins. See how far I could get. I stick with one room at a time. After 15 mins, timer dings. I stop. get a cup of tea. Then return after 30 mins and do a bit more. If your attention lapses easily try putting on music. I mostly did mine silent so I could focus on which pile to put papers. Blocking outdoor noise became easy as it was like reading a book-I got absorbed and soon was turning off timer to carry on. Mostly shredding in office-and tearing up paper items for recycling bin. My biggest tip is to take your own pace. Tip 2; name your piles: shred / recycle / file / not sure [you might go for more than this] The Not Sure pile enables you to defer what you're unsure of. Certainly you will think this will give you the same amount of papers each time you de-junk? Not so. Each time you come back you will find a different frame of mind and might be able to say aha! That can be put in the file of pending projects, or you may wonder why you are keeping it-in which case it shreds if it has address or other personal info on, or goes in recycling if not. You will find your own rhythm but it is helpful to have a few hints. I called in a de-clutter professional but before she was available to come round-I had decluttered the office /storage room with only online hints and tips. 'Is it beautiful?' 'Is it useful?' were 2 questions the de-clutter lady gave me when she came to assess my room. Somehow this visit gave me the oomph I was looking for. Former housemate comes regularly to de clutter his share. He also asks me 'keep or bin?' which really helps. Good luck everyone and remember-try and get someone with outsider view-to help you as my ex housemate does.

GOODBYE CLUTTER HELLOOO HARMONY!
- I decided to give it a try and started small, with a bathroom cabinet. I hated, walking past my bathroom sink, it left me with a feeling of dread, so once I heard about Feng shui and the decluttering step, I decided to give it a go. AMAZING RESULTS! Not only is my cabinet clean and clear of clutter and excess, but I can breathe easier now, I no longer have that awful feeling of dread every time I walk past the bathroom sink. I was so amazed by this that I decided to try a closet. WOW! I feel soooo free! it's the only word to describe it. Both of those areas are in the creativity area of the bagua - not only was I able to complete some writing after this, but I was also PUBLISHED!

50 Things
- I have started a tally of how many things I throw out or give away. It has become a game to reach my goal of 50. Especially since whether it is one piece of junk mail or 100 it counts as one thing. I am only at 10 but have already thrown out several bags of garbage. My husband's stuff was cluttering up the entryway and stairway so after asking him nicely several times to clean it up I boxed it all up and put the boxes in his room. I've noticed he is no longer leaving stuff on the stairs for longer than a day. Also stuff he leaves in the entryway is gone within 24 hours. It is still hard for me to get rid of a lot of stuff but being able to walk through the space and not feeling weighted down all the time is making it worthwhile.

On a journey
- I am working on getting my weight and life under control. My partner and I are also looking for life directions. I am decluttering and trying to get the energy flowing in our house again. I have done this in the past and our lives changed for the better. We just got clogged down in the muck of everyday living and starting accumulating stuff again. It's time for a change for the best. Energy will flow and so will our lives. This really works. We are proof positive before.
